 Indian Contemporary Art Setting Records
In the 1990s there was virtually no secondary art market in India. That changed radically between 2000 and 2008 with Indian artists, Anish KAPOOR and Subodh GUPTA ranking among the world’s fifteen top-selling Contemporary artists with auction revenues of €11.2m and €10.7m respectively. The third top-selling Indian artist, TV SANTOSH (born 1968), had a revenue total only one tenth of his peers’ (€1.2m), although he is expected to move up.
In sync with the Chinese contemporary art scene, Indian contemporary art has begun to find a market at home as well as beyond national borders. With the increase in the middle and upper middle classes wealth, Contemporary art has become a much sought after source of alternate investment, status and national pride. web.artprice.com

 Our Very Own Biennale
“Watch out Venice! Vancouver is going to march into international stardom. The 2009 – 2011 Vancouver Biennale began installing sculptures mid-September to rave reviews and media attention. Recent installations include “Meeting” by Wang Shugang in Cardero Park. www.flickr.com and Yue Min Jun's nine foot 14 smiling figures in Morton Triangle, English Bay at Denman & Davie. www.flickr.com
With the focus on Asia & the theme of 'in-transition', these two installations evidence the commitment and objectives of the Biennale to turn the City into an open air museum featuring the most prominent international artists of our time. Observing people interactions with the installations re emphasizes the Biennale’s philosophy of engagement, diversity, interaction, accessibility, and education as the vehicle for bringing people together in harmony and dialogue. 30 major public artworks are scheduled for installation between now and Halloween throughout Vancouver, Richmond, along the Canada Line and at YVR.

NYC Museum’s Stolen Painting Returned by Mail
Talung Monastery was discovered missing on June 28, four days after another work by Roerich, an obscure Russian artist, was stolen.
On August 14, the museum received a curious package in the mail: a manila envelope containing the painting, placed between two pieces of cardboard and in perfect condition. Although there was a return address, the museum declined to reveal details, as an investigation is ongoing. Still missing is the other stolen work, titled Himalayas.
